ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has arrived in Washington, D.C. for a high-level one-day visit aimed at advancing diplomatic and economic ties with the United States.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar is scheduled to meet U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio today at the U.S. State Department. The meeting will take place at 8:00 PM Pakistan Standard Time.

The agenda is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on expanding trade and economic cooperation. Both sides are also likely to discuss broader regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s foreign policy stance, the Foreign Office stated: “Pakistan remains committed to peaceful diplomacy and believes all disputes must be resolved through dialogue.”

On regional tensions, particularly with India, the spokesperson added:

“It is up to India to decide what path it chooses. Pakistan’s position is clear. We seek peace through engagement.”

Dar’s visit comes at a time when Pakistan is actively seeking to diversify its foreign partnerships and attract foreign investment to stabilize its economy. Analysts view this engagement as a signal of Pakistan’s intention to reposition itself as a reliable partner in regional stability and economic collaboration.

Additionally, the meeting is expected to touch on security cooperation, counterterrorism efforts, and developments in Afghanistan, where both Pakistan and the U.S. have shared strategic concerns. Diplomatic observers believe that the outcome of this visit could shape the next phase of U.S.-Pakistan relations in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.
