ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced its reserved verdict, declaring Member of the National Assembly Jamshed Dasti’s academic credentials to be fake.
The ECP has accepted two disqualification petitions filed against him and approved the reference sent by the Speaker of the National Assembly seeking his disqualification.
It is worth noting that in May, the Election Commission had concluded hearings on petitions related to Dasti’s assets and academic qualifications and had reserved its judgment, which was announced today.
The decision is expected to trigger a by-election for the vacated National Assembly seat. Legal experts say Dasti may challenge the ruling in the superior judiciary, but until then he stands disqualified from holding public office.
