Washington, D.C. — Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with U.S. Secretary Marco Rubio in Washington D.C. today. The high-level meeting centered on enhancing bilateral trade, technological collaboration, and regional security.
Trade, Tech, and Critical Minerals at the Forefront
During their meeting, both leaders explored opportunities to deepen economic ties across multiple sectors, with a renewed focus on trade, investment, IT, and artificial intelligence.
Secretary Rubio emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in the critical minerals sector, a field essential to both national security and global supply chains.
“I met with Deputy Prime Minister @MIshaqDar50 to discuss expanding bilateral trade and enhancing collaboration in the critical minerals sector,” Rubio said in a post on X.
Joint Commitment to Security and Regional Stability
The two sides reaffirmed their cooperation in counterterrorism efforts and broader regional security.
Rubio publicly thanked Pakistan for its continued partnership, stating:
“I also thanked him for Pakistan’s partnership in countering terrorism and preserving regional stability.”
Dar echoed this sentiment, noting that mutual coordination at multilateral fora, particularly at the UN Security Council, remains crucial.
He also praised the U.S. for playing a constructive role in facilitating the recent Pakistan–India ceasefire, calling it a meaningful step toward peace in South Asia.

Both officials expressed confidence in building a more stable and mutually beneficial relationship.
“With continued dialogue and mutual respect, I am confident we can build a more stable, prosperous, and mutually beneficial future for both our nations,” said Dar.
