Pakistan, 16 Other Nations Condemn Israeli Bill to Annex West Bank

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, along with 16 other countries and international organizations including Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Arab League, has strongly condemned the Israeli parliament’s approval of a bill seeking to annex the occupied West Bank.

In a joint statement issued, the countries declared that the Israeli Knesset’s move is a clear violation of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which denounces all Israeli measures aimed at changing the demographic composition, character, and legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

The statement emphasized that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has reaffirmed the illegality of Israel’s occupation, settlement expansion, and annexation attempts on Palestinian land, reiterating that Israel holds no sovereignty over the occupied territories. It urged Israel to immediately halt all unilateral and unlawful actions undermining peace efforts.

Welcoming the ICJ’s recent advisory opinion that holds Israel responsible for ensuring humanitarian access to Gaza, the signatories called on the international community to fulfill its moral and legal responsibilities by ensuring Israel’s compliance with international law and protection of Palestinian rights.

The countries reaffirmed that the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only viable path toward lasting peace, justice, and stability in the Middle East.
