LAHORE: The air quality in Lahore and several other cities across Punjab continues to be extremely hazardous, posing serious health risks to residents.

According to a global environmental monitoring website, Gujranwala recorded the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) in the region at 517, placing it well into the “hazardous” category.

Lahore’s average AQI reached 394, making it the third most polluted city in Pakistan, while certain areas of the city faced even higher levels: DHA recorded 759, Barkee Road 661, and the area around FC College 611.

Experts warn that prolonged exposure to such pollution can cause severe respiratory problems, aggravate heart conditions, and affect vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.

They recommend avoiding unnecessary travel, wearing protective masks, keeping windows closed, and limiting outdoor activities, especially during the early morning hours when pollution tends to be at its peak.
