British envoy congratulates Nawaz on acquittal by courts

Jane Marriott says February 8th general elections highly important for Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner in Pakistan Jane Marriott met former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad soon after the Supreme Court ended lifetime disqualification of politician on Monday.

PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif and chief organizer of the party Maryam Nawaz Sharif were also present at the meeting. 

The British High Commissioner congratulated the former prime minister on his acquittal by courts in different cases and the latest apex court verdict ending the lifetime disqualification of politicians from holding public office.

She also apprised the PML-N chief about her earlier meetings with leaders of different political parties in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The British envoy was of the view that the Feb 8th general elections were highly important for Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, the former prime minister said that enhancing relations in diverse fields between Pakistan and Britain was in the interest of both the countries. 

It may be mentioned here that Nawaz Sharif had already been acquitted in all cases registered against him during the tenure of his arch rival Imran Khan.
