EU extends Pakistan’s GSP plus status for four years

Current GSP plus status expires in December this year.

ISLAMABAD: The European Union (EU) parliament has voted to extend Pakistan’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) Plus status for another four years.

The parliament voted in favor of extending the tax relief status for developing countries including Pakistan with 561 votes in favor, five against and two in abstention.

The EU Council is now expected to give its final formal approval for the extension soon.

The current GSP plus status expires in December 2023.

At a meeting earlier, Caretaker Prime Minster Anwaarul Haq Kakar told EU Ambassador to Pakistan Riina Kionka that GSP Plus scheme was boosting Pakistan’s exports to European markets.

He said that his government was committed to safeguarding and upholding the rights of all its citizens.

The EU ambassador said that the EU would continue to provide support to the government of Pakistan and work to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
