PESHAWAR: The widows and children of dozens of martyred policemen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been struggling to receive the martyr package for over a year.
According to the Central Police Office data, 2,020 police personnel in KP were victims of terrorism, out of which 2,160 martyrs’ families have been given financial assistance under the martyr package.
According to official documents, the heirs of 42 police personnel who were martyred a year ago have not yet been able to get the martyr package of Rs10 million.
Relatives of the martyrs said they were worried about the lack of financial assistance even after over a year.
The relatives of the police martyrs have requested the newly appointed IGP to release the package soon.
According to the documents, there are 16 conditions to be met before the martyr package is approved for a fallen official. These conditions include detailed incident report, FIR, death certificate, stuck-up certificate, family list, FRC certificate and children’s bank accounts.
According to the Central Police Office, the cases of the 42 martyred personnel have been sent to the Home and Tribal Affairs Department and the Finance Department for approval.
Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed said the police were trying their best to get the martyr package approved as soon as possible.
He said that due to the government’s financial constraints, the package fund could not be released on time. As soon as the amount is released, the police department immediately reach out to the families of the martyrs.
