High-level delegations to visit Bangladesh to enhance ties soon

Decision follows resolve expressed by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Bangladesh govt chief Dr Muhammad Younas.

KARACHI: The government of Pakistan has decided to send three high-level delegations to Bangladesh this month to enhance bilateral relations after the political development that took place in Bangladesh last year.

The decision to send the  delegations to Dhaka is part of the government’s strategy to enhance relations with Bangladesh after Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the chief executive officer of Bangladesh Nobel laureate Mohammad Younas met in Cairo a few weeks ago and decided to begin working closely to enhance collaboration.

Relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh remained strained for decades because Hasina Wajid, who ruled Bangladesh for many years, was  always backed by India. With her escape from the country after her government was toppled by student protests, relations between Dhaka and Islamabad have seen a new era of cooperation and closeness.

Pakistan has also decided to give scholarships to over 300 students in higher educational institutions of Pakistan.

On the other hand, the interim government of Bangladesh has lifted restrictions in import of different goods from Pakistan.

Moreover, a high level delegation of business persons from Pakistan is set to visit Bangladesh after over two decades to explore avenues for expanding collaboration.
