Cold wave, heavy snowfall; emergency declared in six US states

National Weather Service forecast six to 12 inch of snowfall in different states from Ohio to Washington. 

WASHINGTON: A cold wave coupled with heavy snowfall has gripped most parts of the United States of America and Canada while emergency has been declared in six US states.

According to media reports, routine life has been badly affected due to the harsh weather conditions caused by polar vortex in 30 states of the US. In most of these states, temperature is below freezing point and some experiencing even -12 to -30 degrees.

The National Weather Service forecast about six to 12 inch of snowfall in different states from Ohio to Washington. 

According to a report in the foreign media, the inclement weather has also affected about routine flight schedules across the United States of America with 1500 flights cancelled and thousands of others facing delays.

In some of the states, many roads have been blocked while authorities have closed schools in different areas. 

According to the reports, this is the heaviest snowfall recorded in the US in the month of January since 2011.
