We want to facilitate citizens in filing their tax return with ease, says commissioner.

NEW YORK: The New York City Government has launched a free tax filing system to facilitate the citizens.

The city government said it wanted to provide as much facilities to the taxpayers as possible in order to enable them in filing their returns.

At a roundtable with media representatives arranged by the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection of the city government, Commissioner Vilda Veta Mayuga said that we are working for the betterment of the citizens and want to provide maximum facilities to the working class New Yorkers.

For this purpose, centers have been opened at 140 points in all the five boroughs of the city to facilitate the citizens with free tax filing. The citizens can also avail of the facility virtually, the commissioner added.

The free tax filing system is available to those citizens whose annual income is 85,000 dollars or less.

Last year, 84,000 tax returns were filed under the system, saving the tax filers about 13 million dollars in terms of fee.
