LAHORE: Pakistan secured a commanding 93-run victory over South Africa in the first Test at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, taking a 1–0 lead in the two-match series.
South Africa began the fourth day on 51 for 2, chasing a target of 277 runs, but Pakistan’s bowlers produced a clinical performance to bowl out the visitors for 184.
Shaheen Shah Afridi made an early breakthrough by dismissing Tony de Zorzi without allowing him to add to his overnight score.
Left-arm spinner Nauman Ali then tightened Pakistan’s grip by removing Tristan Stubbs and David Bedingham, while Sajid Khan claimed the crucial wicket of Ryan Rickelton for 45. Afridi returned to dismiss Kyle Verreynne and Keshav Maharaj (Subrayen), and Sajid Khan wrapped up the innings by taking the final wicket of Senuran Muthusamy.
Earlier in the match, Pakistan posted 378 runs in their first innings. In reply, South Africa were dismissed for 269, giving Pakistan a 109-run lead. The hosts managed 167 runs in their second innings, setting South Africa a target of 277.
By the end of Day 3, South Africa had lost both openers, with captain Aiden Markram scoring only 3 and Wiaan Mulder dismissed without troubling the scorers.
On the final day, Pakistan’s bowlers delivered a disciplined and aggressive display to seal a memorable win in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. Nauman Ali’s impressive spell also broke a 37-year-old record, further highlighting Pakistan’s dominance.
The second and final Test of the series will determine whether Pakistan can complete a clean sweep over the Proteas.
