Pakistan, Qatar Announce Progress After Iran-US Talks in Switzerland
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Qatar have issued a joint statement following the conclusion of the first round of Iran-US negotiations held in Switzerland, marking a significant step toward regional diplomatic engagement.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the initial phase of talks has been completed under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
The joint statement said both sides agreed to establish a high-level committee to oversee the negotiations, while also approving a 60-day roadmap for reaching a final agreement.
It was further announced that technical-level talks between Iran and the United States will begin immediately. A communication line has also been set up to ensure the safe passage of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement added that a de-confliction cell will be established to support the implementation of the Lebanon ceasefire. Working groups will also be formed to address issues related to Iran’s nuclear program and international sanctions.
According to officials, the de-confliction cell will include Lebanon and mediating countries, which will continue efforts to facilitate a constructive dialogue process.
Technical negotiations are expected to continue during the remaining days of the week at the Bürgenstock Resort in Switzerland.
