PM appoints Syrus Qazi as new foreign secretary

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the appointment of Syrus Qazi as the new foreign secretary, it has been learnt.

Syrus, a grade-22 officer of the foreign service, is currently serving as special secretary and will replace Asad Majid on August 16. The latter is retiring after reaching the age of superannuation.

The government approved the appointment of his successor days before his retirement date as it did not want to leave such an important post to be filled by the caretaker setup.
