ISLAMABAD: The supreme court of Pakistan on Friday announced the reserved verdict on PTI founder Imran Khan appeal against amendments made to the national accountability law.
The court in its judgement stated that the PTI founder had failed to prove that the amendments to the NAB law made by the PDM government in 2022 were illegal.
The Supreme Court bench that heard the appeal was headed by chief justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprised four other justices. All the judges unanimously rejected the appeal of Imran Khan.
In 2023, the then Chief Justice of Pakistan had accepted the plea of the PTI founder against the changes to the NAB law.
The amendments had reduced the tenure of the NAB chairman to three years and restricted NAB’s jurisdiction to probe cases involving over Rs500 million.
However, today the apex court ruling restored the changes made to the NAB law by parliament. The apex court ruled that judiciary cannot become a gatekeeper of legislation made by parliament.
