Shops gutted in mobile market fire in Karachi

Fire broke out in Saddar market and spread to nearby buildings, cause yet to be determined.

KARACHI: A fire broke out in a mobile phone market located in Saddar Karachi in which scores of shops were gutted, causing loss of millions of rupees to traders.

Fire brigade officials said that the fire broke out late at night and spread to nearby buildings but the flames were put out in the morning. 

Electronic Dealers Association chairman Minhaj Gulfam said that fire affected Shahjahan Market abd Bismillah Market and spread to nearby buildings.

He said the fire spread in the narrow lanes of the building, adding the cause of the fire was not yet known. He said the traders had suffered losses of millions of rupees.

A fire brigade official said the shopkeepers fid not open the gates of the markets on time to help the staffers extinguish the flames
