Agriculture needs modernization, says PM

Stresses need to diversify ties with China in different sectors.

KARACHI: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan 60% population lives in rural areas and depend on agriculture for their livelihood. 

He said that without modernizing the agriculture system Pakistan cannot achieve the goals of development and productivity from agriculture. 

The prime minister was speaking at a meeting held with representatives of foreign business companies, mostly Chinese, in Karachi. He said that Pakistan’s economy mostly relied on agriculture to and it is time that we exploit the sector to its full potential and start new ventures in value-added  services. 

The Prime Minister said that the government had decided to send 1,000 Pakistani students abroad to attend refresher courses in agriculture and learn more than techniques and practices. 

He said that Pakistan has deep-rooted historical relations with China in different fields and both governments wanted to expand their ties to diversified sectors including trade, investment and industrialization.
