Fawad Chaudhry given in police custody for two days

Brought to court in armed vehicle and handcuffed with his face covered with cloth.

ISLAMABAD: Former minister Fawad Chaudhry was on Sunday produced in a local court which handed him to the police for two days for investigation into a case. 

Chaudhry, a former leader of the PTI, had joined the newly-formed Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party after the May 9 violence following the arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan However, he reportedly backtracked from his decision to part ways with Imran Khan. 

Earlier, he was arrested soon after the May 9 incidents, but released. 

Chaudhry was again picked up from his house in Islamabad on November 4 and taken to an undisclosed location on November 4. 

Today he was produced in the local court in handcuffs in an armoured vehicle with his face covered with a piece of cloth. 

The court was told that Chaudhry while a minister had taken Rs0.5 million from a citizen promising him a job. However, neither he arranged the job nor returned the money to the applicant. 

The job applicant, Zaheer, filed a case against Chaudhry in the Aabpara police station of Islamabad.

However, Chaudhry told the court that the case was fake and the complainant even did not turn up at the court.
