ISLAMABAD: In a major development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the departments concerned to increase the loan amount from Rs0.5 million to Rs1.5 million under the government’s youth loan program.
The prime minister added that a detailed survey should be carried out to provide facilities to small and medium-sized businesses to be initiated by the youth across the country.
Mr Sharif issued the directions while chairing a review meeting on the issues of small and medium businesses in which the concerned officials briefed briefed him about the program.
The Prime Minister directed the officials that a detailed survey should be completed soon to facilitate small and medium businesses and the loan amount under the Prime Minister Youth Program should be increased from 500,000 to 1,500,000 rupees.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the models of developed countries should be implemented to bring the facilities in line with international requirements, adding a special package for women entrepreneurs in small-scale businesses should also be prepared and presented to him for allocation of funds.
He was of the view that SMEs across the world were playing a key role to ensure the development of the economy. He said that his government was trying to empower the youth and women entrepreneurs. The youth and women should be enabled not only to create self-employment but also provi job opportunities for others, he added.
