No compromise with May 9 planners, perpetrators: COAS

Says planners, abettors, facilitators and culprits of May 9 will be brought to justice according to the law.

LAHORE: Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir here on Thursday said there would no deal or compromise with inimical forces involved in digital terrorism and trying to create division in armed forces and people of Pakistan.

Addressing officers and soldiers, the army chief said 9th May will undoubtedly remain a black day in the history of Pakistan. He said that indoctrinated miscreants attacked the symbols of the state and national unity, besides desecrating monuments of martyrs on 9th May, 2023.

He was referring to the arson attacks on military installations by support of PTI after the arrest of the party founder and former prime minister Imran Khan in a corruption case on May 9, 2023, in Islamabad.

“The planners, abettors, facilitators and culprits of May 9 will be brought to justice according to the law and our patience not to respond to daily provocations made in brazen violation of the constitution has limits and it must never be misconstrued as weakness,” he said. Two day before the anniversary of the May 9 vandalism, the military spokesman held a presser and ruled out any dialogue with the PTI.

On May, both the president and the prime minister condemned the vandalism and the government observed the day as martyrs day. Speaking at a function held to honor martyrs, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Moreover, the provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan also passed resolutions condemning the violence.

On the other hand, scores of PTI supporters were arrested after they tried to hold rallies in different cities of Punjab.
