Pak-Afgan Jirga holds talks on opening of Torkham border

PESHAWAR: Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed on the permanent opening of the Torkham border to ensure uninterrupted trade through the crossing.

Significant progress was made in the Pak-Afghan Jirga talks on the Khyber Torkham border tension and in this regard Pakistani Jirga member Jawad Hussain said that it had been agreed to open the Torkham trade route for all types of traffic.

Jawad Hussain said that the joint Jirga had agreed to temporarily stop the controversial constructions by the Afghan forces at the border. The Afghan jJirga has asked for time to stop the controversial constructions.

The Jirga member said that the Afghan Jirga will talk to the Afghan authorities to a deal to stop the construction of the disputed structure until a meeting of the Joint Chamber of Commerce.

Jawad Hussain said that in the next meeting of the JCC, a permanent decision will be taken on the disputed construction. The trade route will be opened until the next meeting for which a date will be decided by both sides.

He said that a meeting between the FC officials and Afghan officials on the Torkham border will also be held soon.
