ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed concern over the newly signed defense agreement between the United States and India with the Foreign Office signaling its close scrutiny of the deal’s potential impact on regional stability.
FO Spokesperson Tahir Andarabi confirmed that Pakistan was carefully assessing the broader implications of the defense pact, which aims to significantly enhance military cooperation between the two countries.
The 10-year defense agreement between the US and India, signed in recent days, aims to foster deeper military ties, focusing on the procurement of advanced defense equipment, joint military exercises, and technology sharing. Under the pact, the US will provide India with cutting-edge military technologies, including advanced fighter jets, surveillance systems, and missile defense systems. The deal is seen as a significant step in strengthening India’s defense capabilities, particularly in the context of its ongoing regional tensions.
Andarabi emphasized that Pakistan’s armed forces are on high alert and prepared to respond decisively to any acts of aggression from India, including ongoing military exercises. He made it clear that any Indian provocations would be met with a strong, swift response.
In addition to enhancing defense collaboration, the US-India deal also aims to boost intelligence sharing and logistical support between the two countries, with the intent to counter growing security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region and strengthen India’s strategic position. The pact is seen as a move to counterbalance China’s rising influence in the region.
Addressing questions about India’s military actions, Andarabi suggested that inquiries about the downing of Indian aircraft should be directed to India itself, hinting that the truth may be uncomfortable for the Indian side. He also pointed out that while Pakistan’s improving relations with Afghanistan may not please India, Pakistan remains unconcerned by India’s reactions.
