ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the federal budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 will include measures aimed at providing relief to the public, alongside steps to further strengthen the country’s economy.
The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of leading industrialists and prominent business figures in Islamabad. The meeting focused on accelerating economic growth and consulting the business community regarding budget preparations.
Welcoming the delegation, the prime minister appreciated the role of Pakistan’s business community, calling them ambassadors of the country.
He thanked them for supporting the government during challenging economic times and emphasized that strong public-private partnership is essential for sustainable economic development.
Shehbaz Sharif said the government is committed to export-led growth and is taking steps to bring the undocumented economy into the tax net. He added that relief measures for the public are being incorporated into the upcoming budget.
The prime minister highlighted that business-friendly policies have contributed to economic stability and helped restore investor confidence. He reiterated the government’s focus on promoting industries that boost production, increase exports, and create employment opportunities.
He further noted that development in key sectors such as industry, agriculture, and information technology would strengthen the economy and generate jobs. Technical and vocational training programs have also been launched to equip youth with skills for employment.
During the meeting, the delegation was briefed on various government initiatives aimed at promoting trade and industry. These included reforms in tax tribunals for quicker case resolution, plans for special commercial courts, and infrastructure projects to improve connectivity from ports to inland areas.
Participants appreciated the government’s economic policies, tax reforms, and efforts to promote digital payments and documentation of the economy. They also acknowledged the government’s steps toward maintaining regional peace and stability.
The business leaders expressed confidence in the government’s economic direction and assured their continued support for economic recovery and growth.
Several federal ministers, senior officials, and representatives from the State Bank of Pakistan also attended the meeting.
