Rekodak case: Freezing of Pakistani assets begins at the request of Tethyan Copper Company

The British Virgin Islands High Court has initiated proceedings to freeze Pakistani assets at the request of Tethyan Copper Company in the Rekodak case. The Attorney General said that the government would defend the interests of Pakistan at all costs.

According to a statement issued by the Attorney General’s Office, the British Virgin Islands High Court has initiated proceedings on the Tethyan Copper Company’s request to freeze Pakistani assets.

According to the order, various assets of Pakistani institutions have been attached to the case. The Attorney General’s Office says that the British Virgin Islands High Court issued an order to freeze the assets without listening to Pakistan, the government of Pakistan using all possible resources to defend the interests of Pakistan.

The International Center for Dispute Resolution had on July 12, 2019, ordered the payment of a 5.6 billion fine, a conditional restraining order against the fine, under which Pakistan had 1.5 billion in a foreign bank. Tethyan Copper Company has filed a petition in the British Virgin Islands to freeze Pakistani national assets after the expiration of the period.
