Over two dozen people killed in rain-related incidents

Six members of a family killed in Khyber district when their ramshackle house collapsed.

PESHAWAR: Over two dozen of people lost their lives in rain-related incidents in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last two days.

Six members of a family were killed in Khyber district when their ramshackle house collapsed after heavy rainfall early on Sunday morning.

The deceased included four children and two women. Local people retrieved the dead bodies from the debris of the house.

The house was located in the Zakakhel bazar of Khyber. The area residents said the house collapsed after the heavy rain that continued for three days. 

During the wet spell, over two dozen of people have died in rain-related in incidents in different parts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa.

Moreover, many areas in Swat, Kaghan and Chitral are cut off due to blockade of roads. The Karakorum Highway remained closed for the second day running with thousands of people stranded between Gilgit-Baltistan and Kohistan.

Polio campaign in many districts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa could not be launched while schools in Chitral were closed till March 9 due to heavy snowfall and cold weather.

The Met Office has forecast another wet spell from March 7 to 10, and also alerted the departments concerned to remain alert to meet any emergency situation.
