US apologizes for providing anti-corona vaccine to Pakistan

WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD: The United States has apologized for providing anti-corona vaccine to Pakistan, the State Department informed the Ministry of National Health about the US response following a letter from the Pakistani mission in Washington.

According to a document received by News Diplomacy from the Pakistani Mission in Washington, the US pharmaceutical company did not respond positively to the request for vaccine supply. The company will meet the local demand for the vaccine in the first phase, however, it will export vaccines in te second phase, added in the document.

The letter said Johnson & Johnson is still conducting clinical trials of the corona vaccine, with temporary complications in the trials, yet the Pakistani mission in Washington is active in obtaining the corona vaccine, and is working on anti-corona vaccine preparations, and is in contact with other companies.

Efforts are being made by the Ministry of National Health to contact US companies. Pakistan is contacting companies for advance booking of expected corona vaccine.

However, Prime Minister Imran Khan had yesterday approved advance booking of vaccine for corona vaccine.

Similarly, it may be recalled that Parliamentary Secretary for Health Dr. Noshin Hamid had confirmed the contact with two vaccine manufacturers for advance booking and expressed hope that Pakistan would succeed in booking the Corona vaccine in advance.

The Prime Minister last month proposed an advance booking of vaccines for the protection of 10 million citizens from Corona and allocated 10 100 million for this purpose. In the first phase, vaccines for health workers, senior citizens will be provided.
