Zardari’s papers accepted for presidential election

Mehmood Khan Achakzai and three independent candidates have also filed papers for the election.

ISLAMABAD: PPPP head and former president Asif Ali Zardari has filed nomination papers for election as president for the second time. 

The nomination papers were filed in Islamabad High Court which were accepted without any objections, PPP lawyer Farooq H. Naek told media. 

Sunni Ittehad Council has nominated Mehmood Khan Achakzai as its candidate for the president. Moreover, three independent candidates have also filed nomination papers for the election to the president.

They are: Advocate Asghar Ali Mubarak, Waheed Kamal and Abdul Abdul Qudoos.

The five-year term of Arif Alvi as the president has already expired. The election to the president is expected to be held on March 9.

Asif Ali Zardari remained the president of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013 when the PPP was in power. He was succeeded by Mamnoon Hussain of the PML-N.

Meanwhile, scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on today. The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers till tomorrow and final list of will be published the same day.  

Polling for office of the president will be held on Saturday at the Parliament House and in all the four provincial assemblies.
