Afghan Taliban meet PM Imran Khan, discuss peace process

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that there is no military solution to the Afghan conflict, adding that intra-Afghan dialogue is a historic opportunity to achieve lasting peace and stability.

PM Imran said it is hoped that Afghan stakeholders will continue to play a positive role in advancing the negotiations.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Imran Khan reiterated Pakistan’s continued support for a broad-based and comprehensive political settlement of the Afghan conflict. Talking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that there was a need to be cautious about the role of those who were disrupting the peace process and efforts were being made to disrupt the Afghan peace process.

He also expressed concern over the escalating violence in Afghanistan.
PM Imran Khan called on all parties to renounce violence and call for a ceasefire. Economic development of the entire region, including Afghanistan, is possible only through peace and stability.

However, the visit of the Taliban Political Commission delegation to Pakistan is an attempt to make the Afghan peace process a success.
