AIDS spreading in Balochistan, 462 new cases reported: official

QUETTA: The acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is spreading fast in the province of Balochistan but the main factors for the upsurge is yet to be scientifically established.

Director AIDS Control Program Balochistan Dr Zulfiqar Ali told a press conference that the number of AIDS cases in the province was increasing. He said that 462 new cases have been registered in the province while many cases go unreported.

With the registration of these 462 new cases with the AIDS Control Program the total number of AIDS cases in Balochistan has increased to 2823, said Dr Zulfiqar. However, there could be over 9000 AIDS patients in the province as most such cases are not registered.  

The AIDS patients include 594 women, 99 children and 47 transgender persons, he added. 

The International AIDS Day is observed On December 1 every year. WHO said it would join partners and communities to commemorate the day.

Under the theme “Take the rights path: My health, my right!”, WHO is calling on global leaders and citizens to champion the right to health by addressing the inequalities that hinder progress in ending AIDS.
