MUZAFFARABAD: Rising human rights violations and arrests of political leadership in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) must be highlighted at international forums like the United Nations (UN), European Union EU and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to exert pressure on the Indian government to stop excessive use of force to crush the ongoing indigenous political movement in IIOJK.

These views were expressed by speakers at a seminar on “IIOJK after August 5, 2019 and role of diaspora and Azad government of the state of Jammu and Kashmir”.

The seminar was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) in connection with “Accession to Pakistan week” that started on July 19 to mark the Kashmiris’ accession to Pakistan announced on July 13, 1947, in Srinagar.

Chief guest at the seminar, President Tehreek-i-Kashmir United Kingdom Raja Fahim Kayani, said people in UK and other European countries are ready to contribute for Kashmir cause, but the zero interest of the AJK government in promotion of Kashmir dispute discourages all overseas Pakistanis and Kashmiris.

“It is only overseas Kashmiris and Pakistanis who are still committed and intact with Kashmir freedom struggle. People in Spain, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Scotland and even Ireland took to the streets after August 5, 2019 when India abrogated special status of Kashmir and merged it into India while dividing it in two pieces Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Following the August 5, 2019 overseas Kashmiris in UK and other European countries marched and staged protest demonstrations in different European cities against India that has snatched the statehood of Kashmiris.

Mr Kayani said the AJK government must earmark a special fund for the promotion of Kashmiri’s freedom struggle at international level. He said all lawmakers and elected representatives of Azad Jammu and Kashmir AJK must have the basic knowledge about Kashmir dispute.

Former Chief Justice of AJK Supreme Court Justice Manzoor Gilani said ground realities must be accepted that Pakistan’s poor economy dented Kashmir cause. He said only Pakistan’s economical stability will ensure the permanent settlement of IIOJK. He urged upon the diaspora to hire intellectuals in UK and other western countries and brief them on Kashmir dispute so they will influence the main powerful circles to get their support for the permanent settlement of this vexed issue that has put the South Asian countries peace and security at stake.

Justice Gilani said that overseas Kashmiris children should go and join main institutions in Europe where they can present truth and expose India’s lies on IIOJK. He said AJK is declared province of Pakistan without provincial rights so in such situation AJK government has zero role in Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Former Naib Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami AJK Sheikh Aqeelur Rehman said that overseas Kashmiris are doing good job and besides others President TeK UK Kayani is also contributing very well and better than diplomatic core of Pakistan based in London.

He grilled the AJK government saying they have turned the base camp into race camp for their personal gains and interests. He said it is time to evolve a joint national strategy for the settlement of IIOJK.

Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement JKSM Altaf Ahmad Bhat said that AJK government has immense resources but priorities are different which is dangerous for Kashmir cause. The government of AJK must come forward and set an example while putting Kashmir cause at top priority then we will be in a good position that Kashmir issue must be settled once for all.

Bhat appreciated the line adopted by government of Pakistan and establishment to keep Kashmir issue on priority both at national and international level. The JKSM chairman Bhat further said that it is time for both AJK government and civilians to keep Kashmir issue on priority. Bhat said various areas are open which the AJK government in collaboration with other stake holders can highlight Kashmir cause vehemently.

Renowned historian and writer Allama Jawad Jaffery said the world scenario had changed and now it was our duty how we will highlight this noble cause.  Jaffery also asked Azad Jammu and Kashmir government come forward and start documentation of this land.

Former Additional Chief Secretary General Farhat Ali Mir said that the instrumental role of AJK govt is vital for diaspora and appealed the AJK government to appoint Plebiscite Advisor aimed to highlight Kashmiris freedom struggle with full pace. He also hailed the role of overseas Kashmiris and Pakistanis for Kashmiri cause promotion.

Others who spoke on the occasion included acting Chairman Central Bar Association AJK Naseer Awan, Nisar Ahmad Khan. Dr Abdul Majeed Dar, Faizan Mughal, Shaukat Javid Mir, Shafiq Bhat, Saeed Sidiqi and Uzair Ahmad Ghazali.
