Diplomatic officials in Pakistan and America express ignorance about visit of foreign minister.

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has arrived in America on a private visit during which he is scheduled to meet think-tank and political representatives and discuss Pak-US relations and regional issues.

However, diplomatic officials both in the US and Pakistan are trying to keep the visit of the foreign minister a secret.

Sources say that Mr Bilawal, who is the chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), will meet American politicians and discuss further promoting Pakistan-US relations.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar will be accompanying Mr Bilawal in these sessions.

When contacted by News Diplomacy, Pakistan’s diplomats in the US, however, expressed ignorance about the visit of the foreign minister while Foreign Office spokesperson and some diplomatic officials refused to give details about the schedule of his entinerary.

However, sources told News Diplomacy that staff from Pakistan embassy in Washington would visit Florida and Loss Angles where Mr Bilawal is scheduled to meet think-tank and political representatives.

It may be noted that Mr Bilawal was earlier on an official visit of Japan during which his sister Asifa Bhutto Zardari also accompanied him.

Mr Bilawal later reached Dubai and celebrated Eidul Azha there before embarking on the private US visit.

It is also interesting to nite that top leaders of the two main political parties of the coalition government in Pakistan, PPP and the PML-N, are currently on unexpected visit of different countries.

PML-N supremo was earlier in Dubai after which he has reached Saudi Arabia.

Observers say the purpose of these marathon foreign visits could be linked with the forthcoming general elections in Pakistan.
