PM Shehbaz announces 7.41pc per unit cut in power tariffs

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced a major reduction in electricity prices for domestic and industrial consumers across the country.
A ceremony regarding the government’s package to reduce electricity tariffs was held in Islamabad, which was attended by federal ministers and political figures.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said, “I have come to give good news to the nation. When we took over, there was talk of bankruptcy, the IMF was not ready to listen, there was no money to run power plants and there was a very difficult situation to meet energy needs. While those who brought Pakistan to the brink of default were rejoicing that no matter what happens now no one could save Pakistan from default and this tool crossed all limits to make Pakistan default.”
He announced the reduction in the power tariffs for consumers across the country. According to the prime minister, the per unit cost of electricity for domestic consumers has been reduced by Rs7.15. The average price per unit of electricity has now reduced from Rs45.05 to Rs37.64.
According to a document, the per unit price of electricity for commercial consumers has been reduced by Rs8.58 after which per unit electricity rate has come down from Rs71.06 to Rs62.47.
A reduction of Rs7.18 has been announced in the per unit price of electricity for general services from Rs56.66 to Rs49.48.
The per unit cost of electricity for industrial consumers has been reduced by Rs7.69 – from Rs48.19 to Rs40.51.
The per unit cost of electricity for bulk supply has been reduced by Rs7.18 after which it stands at Rs47.87 per unit.
The per unit cost of electricity for the agriculture sector has been reduced by Rs7.18. The per unit cost of electricity for the agricultural sector is now Rs41.76 per unit.
