ISLAMABAD: Punjab government teachers have announced to end their sit-in in Bani Gala on the assurance of approval of their demands.
Punjab government teachers have announced to end sit-in in Bani Gala after talks with DC Rawalpindi. Qasim Bukhari, chairman of the secondary school teachers’ core committee, said that the Islamabad administration had promised to resolve the demands in the talks yesterday.
DC Islamabad became the mediator and on this assurance we are postponing the sit-in. If the demands are not accepted, they will protest again in Bani Gala on one day’s notice.
Yesterday, contract teachers from 36 districts of Punjab province staged a sit-in protest in Bani Gala in support of their demands. Police also fired tear gas to disperse the teachers. He was of the view that the Punjab government had promised to make 14,000 contract teachers permanent, yet no practical steps were taken in this regard.
