GUJRAT: Unknown persons attacked a team of Punjab Anti Corruption Establishment and took away a member of the National Assembly who was arrested for alleged corruption.
He was being investigated in connection with allegations of corruption against him in funds allocated for development projects in his constituency.
ACE circle officer Aftab Haider told police that the armed men riding a car intercepted the ACE team on Shah Dewal Road in Gujrat. They opened fire of the ACE team, snatched the MNA from their custody and took him away in their car. The ACE team kept in looking at the attackers silently.
MNA Imtiaz Chaudhry of the PTI was arrested by the ACE from his house in Gujrat on July 25.
The MNA was in the custody of the ACE on remand and today he was being driven by the ACE team to produce him in a court of the ACE in Bahawalpur.
Police in Gujrat said that on the complaint of the ACE team a case has been registered and a hunt launched against the persons who attacked the team and released the MNA from custody.
