Senate elections cannot be held before February 10, ECP

ISLAMABAD: Stance of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) came to the fore regarding Senate elections. ECP has clarified that the Senate elections cannot be held before February 10, acccording to the constitution, the elections will be held on time.

A spokesman for the Election Commission has said that half of the members of the Senate are retiring on March 11, 2021. Generally, Senate elections are held in the first week of March. However, this time ECP will release the right date for Senate elections as per constitution and law.

According to the spokesperson, according to the constitution, the Senate elections are a constitutional and legal responsibility of the Election Commission, which is committed to holding them.
